    Madonna with Child

The Italian Renaissance was a time of artistic re-birth and innovation which has yet to be repeated. One of these innovations was made by the sculptor Lucca della Robbia of Florence. He discovered and perfected the technique of galzing terracotta and applied it to his already famous reliefs of Madonna and Child. What resulted was instant success for his work, and a ceramic dynasty still alive in Italy today.

19'' x 37'' H The Florentine della Robbia family of artists popularized the use of glazed terracotta for sculpture. The della Robbia name has become synonymous with the sculptures themselves -- often madonna and child, depicted in white, in high relief on a blue background bordered in fruit . This extraordinary two piece Italian ceramic wall sculpture is handmade and hand painted in Tuscany, and is a lovely choice for the della Robbia aficianado.
